Macon Water Authority Inspires Young Minds at Union Elementary School’s Career Day
Company News
The Macon Water Authority (MWA) proudly participated in Union Elementary School’s Career Day on February 5, 2025, where students got an inside look at the vital role MWA plays in ensuring safe, reliable drinking water for the community.
Phedra D. Brown, a Plan Reviewer in the MWA Engineering Department, led the presentation, accompanied by her colleague A’Dayshea Sapp, who also serves as a Plan Reviewer. Together, they visited about six 5th-grade classes, engaging eager young minds with interactive discussions about water treatment, stormwater management, and the critical work MWA does to preserve the quality and integrity of our water system.
For Brown, who has been with MWA for one year and five months, this was her first Career Day event. She shared her enthusiasm for participating, stating,
“I was honored to be invited to participate in this Career Day because it is a great opportunity to give a little back to my community through outreach. It is also a great chance to exhibit compassion and invest in the future through our youth by giving them motivation and, most importantly, showing them how they can be an active participant in the safety and health of our water and water system, as well as our planet! The world is a tough place to live in right now, and I believe everyone has their role in making it just a little bit better.”
The students were inquisitive and engaged, asking thoughtful questions about how water is treated and why keeping our streets clean is essential for protecting water quality. Through interactive activities like water trivia, Brown and Sapp highlighted how everyday actions can impact our water systems and the environment.
MWA was excited to connect with the next generation, sparking interest in water-related careers and inspiring students to become active stewards of their community’s natural resources. Events like these not only showcase the importance of safe, reliable drinking water but also emphasize the power of education and community outreach in shaping a healthier, more informed future.
